Ambassador Spotlight ‘Joshua Trotman’

Introducing Brand Ambassador Joshua Trotman from Guana! If you haven’t heard of it Guyana is an English Speaking Caribbean country in South America. Let’s learn some more about him:

How did you get into surveying? My introduction to the geospatial industry was ironically aas a “kid.” I grew up as the son of a Land Surveyor and the brother of a Land Surveyor. Over the past 21 years, our company has delivered land surveying services across a wide range of sectors throughout Guyana.

While my academic background is in Geology and Hydrology, my day to day work involves integrating geospatial technologies into engineering and infrastructure projects. This includes primarily conducting aerial surveys.

What are your plans as a Brand Ambassador? My primary goal as an Ambassador would be to bring the profession of surveying into Local schools and increase awareness of the opportunities available within the geospatial industry.

Guyana is currently experiencing unprecedented development driven by economic growth associated with our emerging oil and gas sector. As a result, the demand for surveying and geospatial services has increased significantly across infrastructure, construction, energy, and environmental projects.

From my perspective as a young professional and a member of a local surveying firm, I am aware that enrollment and interest in surveying programmes at our technical institutions remain relatively low. In many cases, this is simply due to limited exposure to the profession and a lack of understanding of the diverse career opportunities it offers.

My plan would be to introduce a new generation to surveying in an engaging and interactive way similar to the approach taken by the Get Kids Into Survey initiative. By sharing real world applications of geospatial technology, demonstrating modern survey equipment and highlighting the role surveyors play in shaping the world they widespread development kids see. I hope to inspire students to consider careers within the profession and help build the next generation of geospatial professionals in Guyana.

Tell us a bit about what you do: When not in the air I am also responsible for coordinating survey operations, communicating with clients and managing Aerial Surveys to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and to the required standards while our teams execute other forms of Surveys.
