Ambassador Spotlight ‘Meaghan Schlossmacher’

Introducing Brand Ambassador Meaghan Schlossmacher from Central Florida (Gainesville), USA!

How did you get into surveying? My dad has been a general contractor for most of my life and knew I was struggling picking what i wanted to major in school. I was between Civil engineering and industrial engineering but also had a passion for teaching on the side. I met a women surveyor who he had worked with a lot and she told me about a lot of benefits of getting into surveying between job security and women being really supported.

What are your plans as a Brand Ambassador? My mom, who is a middle school teacher, has connected me with my former middle school to speak at career days for them and I would like to go speak at nearby high schools to encourage kids to think about surveying. I think from any area those kids are from we can encourage them either way since there is always a different path to leadership and we need people in office and in field.

Tell us a bit about what you do: I am at Kimley-Horn as a part-time employee and have accepted an offer with them after my graduation in spring 2027. Over summer I did almost every kind of survey (wetland, topo boundary, alta) and even got to work on a plat from start to finish! Currently I am working on a title review and I like taking on easements since I can get them done same day I am in office (I work about two 8 hour days a week).

Anything else you’d like to add? My teaching passion I had on the side is worth a lot to me. If I did not end up liking the geomatics program at UF I would have switched to elementary education. I love trying to stimulate their little brains and show them fun with learning. I have already thought of activities that connect their education and surveying like playing with rulers.
